The Pensions Regulator

Usability testing

Objective

Optimise an online enrolment service for a government regulatory body.

Approach

The online service was tested in one-to-one sessions with target audience groups, who evaluated a high-fidelity prototype in terms of navigation, content and layout. Any issues identified in the sessions were noted and assigned a priority, based on a predefined severity rating calculation. After each session, participant feedback was immediately collated and analysed. The development team were on hand throughout the testing period to walk-through and discuss any trends that emerged. This enabled any amends to the prototype to be instantly factored in, allowing new changes to be re-tested and validated.

Challenges

Due to the project's infrastructure, there were a number of third party agencies involved in the site's optimisation - ranging from project management to design to development. Facilitating a collaborative working environment with workshops and regular catch ups was critical for bringing the different parties together.

Output

A streamlined, quick-to-use enrolment service that had undergone a robust method of iterative design testing.
